Supplements: ... (Read more) Casa Corazon We call 1902 E Sahuaro Blossom Place, "Corazon", being a La Quinta, it is a very solid and safe feeling house. This is not a "stick" house. The La Quinta Construction is solid masonry with fully insulated furred interiors. The great architectural design is by Seaver Franks Architects. It is the perfect energy efficient house for this beautiful Sonoran Desert environment. Living in Pima Canyon Estates is park living at its best and living in this home grants you some of the most spectacular views in the region. The Tucson sunsets from this home are breathtaking. It is a good place for family, friends and guests. We have made several improvements to the property over the years we have been here: 1. We installed an economically and ecologically sound Photovoltaic Solar Energy System. a) We chose 40 Sun King Solar Panels. They are the best and carry a 25-year warranty. No other manufacturer does this. The system has always surpassed electrical production specified by the manufacturer. b) We chose to create a system that would run even when the power goes down. That means that we installed two sets of inverters for the 12.5 kilowatt load generated by the forty panels. One set are the grid tied Sunny Boy inverters and the other set are Sunny Island inverters which allow the system to operate in Island Mode off grid for hours or even days if necessary. c) We achieved this by also installing a Generac 20 KW natural gas powered backup generator and a shed load system that can distribute the demand load according to a priority schedule with heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration and most lights at the top of the priority list. We also included the entertainment outlets. We have never experienced a blackout even though our neighbors, even those with solar, have. d) Technicians for Sustainability (740-0736) installed and maintains the system. This was the only company in Tucson willing to take on our design for the combined on grid/off grid capability. They are good people and very competent. 2. We installed a high-end water purification system made in Germany but serviced locally. Because it is such a high-end system has not required any service in years. It is not just a filtration system, it is also an electrolysis system as well. This makes the water softer without any need of salt whatsoever. There is still calcium in the water but it is highly reduced. The system reduces chlorine and a myriad of other potentially harmful chemicals to healthy standards! There is an additional sanitizing module. 3. There is a reverse osmosis/water rejuvenator system that is installed which provides drinking water to the kitchen sink drinking faucet and the ice maker in the freezer. This takes the remaining particulate out of the water and then adds back calcium and magnesium at healthy and appropriate levels. 4. We converted the swimming pool to a salt water system from conventional chlorine. This system is heated and creates chlorine in a manner that imitates Nature by converting salt (Sodium Chloride) into sodium and chlorine. The levels of chlorine have never been at a level that smells or feels like conventional additive chlorine. We also installed a Diatomaceaus Earth Filter which does an amazing job, you will see. The water feels heavenly. This system is maintained, once a week, by Pool Werx (323-3405). They are nice people and know the system well. They also maintain the courtyard fountain. 5. We have also done quite a bit of planting. We have wonderful grapefruit and Myer's lemon trees planted in the walled courtyard off the living room and more lemon trees by the pool. There is a weeping mulberry in the main courtyard that is especially beautiful and prolifically fruiting kumquat tree in the main courtyard as well. We consume the fruit of all the fruiting trees. They produce delicious fruit! Mike Henekey is the owner of Henekey Landscaping (780-1980) which maintains the landscaping twice a month. 6. In addition, we converted the original air conditioning system, which was a new 13 SEER system with three compressors to a 22-24 SEER Nutone IQ Inverter driven system. This is a much more efficient system that allows the solar power system to net meter most of the year with our current usage i.e. around $7 a month during most months. We have a great guy, George Kelly, owner of Kelly Mechanical and Air Conditioning, who is a certified Nutone technician, who maintains the system. The system has between two to three years remaining on its warranty. He last serviced and inspected the system on 4/8/2017. The system also has American Standard electrostatic auto air filtration which keeps the air in the house very clean. 7. We also recently upgraded the whole wine room system. Hamstra Heating and Air Conditioning (629-9833) installed both the original system and the new system and will maintain the system. The new system is also under warranty. 8. There are five spectacular real masonry fireplaces in this home. Such pieces of masonry art are very hard to find. Every one of them is done in a herringbone brick pattern. The living room, master bedroom and office/guestroom fireplaces are furnished with remote controlled thermostatic gas logs installed by the Flame Connection (623-0626). The family room and the outdoor living room are furnished only for wood burning. It is nice to have the choice on a chilly evening. 9. The cable TV/Internet connection is supplied by Comcast Xfinity. Xfinity provides the fastest internet available in the region. Nearly every room in the house has a full active ethernet connection with speeds up to 150 mbps. We also use two Apple Airport wireless routers in a unified Wi-Fi system with speeds up to 100 mbps throughout the house. We have found that Xfinity customer service has become much more responsive over the last couple of years and they have been quite attentive to our needs on those few occasisons when we have called them. 10. The Office/Guest Room has been enhanced with a beautiful ensemble which includes three extra workspace areas and a queen sized Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme Murphy bed. It is simple to push back the desk and drop the very comfortable bed down. 11. Corazon has been improved and maintained to the highest standards.
